In October of 1961 a group of boys of
Saint Malachy’s Church approached the assistant, Father Creager, and asked him
if their was any possibility of establishing a boy scout troop in the
parish with Saint Malachy as the sponsoring institution.Taking
the request of the boy scouts to the pastor, Father Herbach, it was well
received and solicitations were made to establish a group of men from the parish
to form the committee for the troop. Many fathers of the boys seemed very
interested and a committee was soon formed.

McCarthy, field  executive of the Three Rivers District of the council, was approached and the
petition was placed in his hands. The required forms were given to the committee  and an application was sent to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America  for final approval.

The  application was approved December 12, 1961. The charter was officially and
formally presented to Father Herbach shortly thereafter.

In 1992 Boy Scout Troop 627, which  was sponsored by the Geneseo Don Cherry V.F.W. Post #5083, was merged into
Troop 100.  Since that time Troop 100 has had dual sponsorship of both
Saint Malachy's Church and the V.F.W. 
in 2013, Saint Malachy's Church ended its sponsorship of Troop 100, and the Don Cherry VFW post #5083 has taken up the sponsorship as the Chartering organization January 1st 2014.

Troop 100 has a rich scouting  history of camping, hiking, canoeing, backpacking, and community service
for over 54 years.  Over 700 young men have experienced scouting
through Boy Scout Troop 100 over this period, and over 63 of them have attained
the rank of Eagle Scout.  Troop 100 has had Scouts living
throughout Henry County Illinois as members.
