The patrol method gives Scouts an experience in group participation and working as a team. It allows Scouts to interact in small groups where they can easily relate to each other. These small groups determine troop activities through their elected representatives.

Membership in a Patrol leads to opportunities for leadership among a scout's peers/patrol mates as well as youth leadership within their troop.
The Patrol selects their patrol name and designs their patrol flag. Suggested Patrol names and associated patches which are added to their uniform are listed below.
