A Bit of History:

Veterans Day is an official United States federal holiday that is observed annually on November 11, honoring people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect). The United States also originally observed Armistice Day; it then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who gave their lives and those who perished while in service.

Auburn Veterans Day Parade.

November 11th.

For those whose jobs allow, we all appreciate a day off. Let's teach our scouts that this is a holiday to look forward to AND a time to remember and honor veterans who served and sacrificed for our Country.

Trivia fact: The Auburn Veterans Day Parade is the longest running annual parade event in the State of California. The first parade was in 1919. Read more here.

The Complementary Luncheon (hot dogs, chips, cookies, soft drinks) will be served at the end of the parade route at the Maurine Dobbas Placer Hall. All participants and spectators are invited to attend.

There is 1 hour program of recognition by speakers and band music.

While it is a lot to ask our youngest scouts to sit through the speeches and recognition after the parade, all families are encouraged to stay for the ceremonies and enjoy the hot dog lunch.

Many veterans young and old attend the ceremony after the parade. Many families have no personal connections to veterans. Honoring these veterans simply by attending is a demonstration of good citizenship and develops our scouting values.

Planned events:

The Parade will begin at 10:45 A.M at the top of Lincoln Way (622 Lincoln Way) and will pause at the Central Square at 11:00 A.M.There will be a brief patriotic ceremony with the release of doves, followed by a fly-over (weather permitting), a three volley rifle salute followed by TAPS.

The parade will resume onto High Street and end at the National Guard Armory in the Gold Country Fairgrounds.
